things have been really hectic recently. with the starting of my short semester and my uni’s decision to torture us all by pilling loads of work on us and adding the bonus of tight deadlines. basically in my first day back to classes i learnt that i have midterms, thesis proposal, and multiple assignments due in the same week in less than a month away. (i may have mentioned this before) but nonetheless, it’s all gonna end soon, as the due date creeps closer and my days become shorter, i realize maybe i wasn’t as prepared for this as i should have been. but nonetheless because i’m a sucker for punishment, i decided to join some friends in a road trip to penang. the land where cheap food was abundance.
as we piled into the car early in the morning, excited at the prospect of watching the sunrise (well i was excited anyway), our eyes bright, smiles wide; slowly changed to sleepy eyes with frowns on our faces. the sunset came and passed but we didnt notice as we were all snoring softly. pulling an all nighter the night before a road trip was not our best idea, despite our excited intentions. even when we finally reached and visited the first attraction, our smiles were rare and mostly plastered on for pictures sake. yes we were trying to create fake memories. but after our tummy was filled and we entered our room, happily we fell onto our beds and snoozed for a good few hours, what may have been wasted time to some was well needed to us, for we couldnt go on all exhausted and cranky. what a difference a nap made, for after a few hours, when we all got up, the smiles on our faces were somewhat real and our energy levels were back up again, we were ready to do more eating and exploring what the little town of Penang had to offer.
hills, beaches, fishing ports, dams, temples, we saw it all, amidst a car with a faulty air cond and restaurants with no air cond, we survived and proved we weren’t snobbish city divas who couldn’t handle a bit of heat and hawker food. we didnt step into a single mall, or shop that had air conditioning. during our whole 2 day trip we spent more time at the side of the road or in the car that i usually do in a week.
ever since i’ve been back from Penang, i’ve been hit hard in the head with the amount of work i need to accomplish this week , just to get back on track.
